The second edition of the PANAF magazine, which is being issued by the communication department of the executive comity of the second edition of the Panafrican cultural festival 2009, has been issued adorned in Algiers colours, carrying various arts that reflect the culture of Africa, promising that Algiers, during the festival festivities, will live artistic and cultural soirees under the light of African culture.
“Let’s live the Festival”, this is how Zouaoui BenHammadi has titled his editorial of the second issue of PANAF magazine. The sky above Algiers is brimming with lights, the City is rumbling, bursting with energy and ready to welcome the second Panafrican Festival. It is too late for regrets and hypothetical questions, and too early, as well, to celebrate much desired success, we don’t know how that will unfold, but we already know that it will be unique in its scale and ambition. We have often heard the questions: why Algeria? Why is Algeria hosting this festival for the second time? The article has been ended by inviting the public to live the event by saying: Our Africa carries great promises, let us then celebrate and live the Festival.
In the magazine you can read an article under the title:” Culture in figures (Algeria). The article is on the European role in African culture destruction, proclaiming this as one of the colonialism good impacts. The article tackled the recent achievements of Algeria in cultural field.
This edition of the PANAF magazine includes articles written by high profile writers such as Rachid Boudjedra in an article under the title: Africa In Djanet , and Djilali Khellas in an article under the title: Chinua Achebe (the deep aspirations of an African).
In cinema, an article was written by Alain Sembene, the son of late Ousmene Sembene. The article was on this cinematographic personality. Another article was written by Ahmed Bedjaoui under the title: “Algeria and the cinematographic party”, in which he tackled the program of cinema and the festival activities, and the promises that the festival is giving the African cinema. Liazid Khaodja wrote two articles, one on Youssef Chahine, actor, Director, scenarist, and producer. The second one was on the black cinema in the world.
In the same edition, and in visual art field, Nadira laggoune Aklouche wrote an article on living forms of contemporary art in Africa, then an article on body arts…Sublime bodies by Nouredine Ferroukhi.
On music, the magazine went back to the Algerian artist Mohamed lamari and to memories from the Panaf 1969. The magazine has also given great space to the eternal African artist Miriam Makiba in an article written by Abdelmajid Benhadid.Abdelkrim Tazarout went back to the Algerian music, especially Berber songs: Notes from exile.
The end was an article written by the head of the High Council for Arabic Language, Mohammed El-Arabi Oueld Khalifa, in which he tackled the issue of the African identity and the Arab-Islamic Culture.
